Book Proof!

Happiness-Hands1Today I received a package in the mail which contained a second proof of my chapbook to be released by Red Bird Chapbooks very soon. I am honored to be working with them on this project. I can’t wait to hold the final copies in my hands…let’s just hope I don’t buy all 100 of them myself.

Check out Red Bird Chapbooks here.

Upcoming Workshop

Hi All,

I am proud to announce that I will be giving a workshop on Memoir Writing for the University of Minnesota’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in July. More information to come…

Now if only I could remember what was happening the day my brother and I were clowns…it looks like a serious story. Doesn’t it?581632_10150737376635742_1430942380_n

Summer Camp!

2013ac-writing

Hey all,

I holed myself up writing these past few weeks to finish work on my McKnight Established Artist grant, but  just the other day I received a beautiful color brochure reminding me that I was invited to teach a week-long summer camp writing class for kids at Crossings at Carnegie. If you or someone you know has children in Southeastern Minnesota send them my way  this July for fun storytelling games.

More information can be found here.

Gratitude and Meat

Hey all,

I’m currently working on an article about the Nerstrand Meat Market. Thinking back on my interview with owner Clyde, and his wife of 50 years Mary, makes me realize how lucky I am to be able to spend time with people like them. Especially since they gave me loads of samples.

Grant Review and Thank You

I am working my way through the final stages of the McKnight Established Artist grant I was awarded in 2012. In reviewing the results I can safely, confidently and gratefully say that this entire process has gone over extremely well. The public event was well-attended, well-recieved. And, I am so thankful for the time to just write and for the time to work on a book proposal for my memoir collection. I want to thank two extraordinary women I have had the pleasure of working with through this process: Suzanne Nielsen and Catherine Friend.

But, as Jay-Z says, “Onto the Next One…”

Today’s Reading…

This morning I was invited to read and speak at an English Composition class at St. Olaf College. I was honored to throw my two cents at the youth of America. I hope they turn out better than I have. 🙂

Enlightening The Youth of Today…Hopefully…

images-4This week I have been invited to read some of my stories to an English class at St. Olaf. I was also asked to speak a bit about writing as a career choice. Not sure yet if I am taking the “Go to school to be an periodontist” route or, “Writing is awesome, follow your dreams” approach.

Last night’s reading…

Hi all,

I am so grateful to all the folks who came out last night to the Northfield Public Library to my public reading event. This event was supported by the McKnight Established Artist Grant awarded from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.

A special thank you goes out to the community members who dropped by not knowing what they were getting into. And, as always, a very special gratitude extends to my former students at the Cannon Valley Elder Collegium. They continue to inspire me everyday. They all have so many stories to tell yet and I can’t wait to hear them.

I know several folks asked last night if I have any upcoming classes in the works. I will post updates regarding that in the near future. As for right now, I am finishing up my grant requirements this month. However, I am seeking out new teaching possibilities. Any suggestions regarding venues and/or classes to teach are welcomed via email.

I’d also like to thank the Northfield Public Library, without there support the event wouldn’t have been possible. I hope that in the future we will work together again to host a local voices reading again.
