Catching up

It’s been awhile. Well honestly, it’s been a whirlwind. I am finishing a manuscript, working full-time and still finding time to laugh at myself. But here are a few writerly things I have in the works.

This weekend I will be participating in the Cracked Walnut reading series.

And, I will be teaching a memoir writing workshop class at the Northfield Public Library through the generous support of a legacy grant. Read more about it here. I am delighted to say that the class has already been filled up with students.

As I am planning the materials for the course, I have come across a quote that I enjoy in regards to writing memoir and I’ll leave it with you.

“Don’t rummage around in your past—or your family’s past—to find episodes that you think are “important” enough to be worthy of including in your memoir. Look for small self-contained incidents that are still vivid in your memory. If you still remember them it’s because they contain a universal truth that your readers will recognize from their own life.”
