Arts Advisory Panel Member

I am very pleased to announce that I will be on the Arts Advisory Panel for the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council in the new year. If you are in the area please take the time to read through the grant guidelines and submit. For more information see the website here.

This is exactly how I will look reading proposals:

My Chapbook has been reviewed and here is an excerpt!

I’m so excited to announce a book review of my chapbook is in the latest Buzz Magazine from Metropolitan State University. Check it out here.

Speaking of the chapbook, it makes an excellent Christmas gift. Pick up a dozen or so here. Red Bird has even added an excerpt! BOOM!

Progress and Memories

I am sitting here in my Halloween costume. I have decided to go as myself four years ago–a hopeful graduate student of Creative Writing. As I go back through my progress since then, I am pleased to say that my hope has turned into a few tangible things, this website included. I mean, for shitssake, I was a finalist this year for the Loft Mentor Series and had a chapbook come out.

So, as I am wrapping up edits on my first full-length memoir collection and going through the usual stages of doubt, confusion and dysphoria I can remember that shiny grad student with her two suitcases and a dream and know that she is closer to achieving that dream. And, I’ll keep marching toward it in my Chucks, red lipstick, jeans (and everything else against the dress code of my big girl job).

Rain Taxi Book Festival

This weekend I will be at the Rain Taxi Review of Books sponsored Twin Cities Book Festival.

I will join my brethren and fellow authors at the Red Bird Chapbooks table.

If you haven’t already please pick up the latest copy of Generations of Today magazine. The article I have written about the Nerstrand Meat Market is featured in the October 2013 issue. It’s a great story on a business that has been in the family for over 100 years.

Chapbook available as an e-book!

I may not have an e-reader but you might! If you do please purchase my chapbook. It is available online here. Or, if you’d like to kick it old school (like me) buy it the old fashioned way here. More exciting news to come! For now, check out this pic that was used for the cover.

Reviewer Needed

I just got an email notification from Prick of the Spindle to let me know my chapbook is on their review shelf. If you would like to consider reviewing it here is the link.

Here is a scary pumpkin that has been filled with Tootsie Rolls at the Nerstrand Meat Market for decades. Check out my upcoming story about the meat market in Generations of Today magazine.

I started a new editing job two months back so I haven’t updated recently. Here are a few things that are going on:

I am honored to have been chosen as a finalist of the Loft Mentorship Series this year.

I am also honored to have taught a week-long summer writing camp for kids at Crossings Art Center (Zumbrota, MN) Has it made me rethink having offspring….yes. Did it inspire me…yes.

I also taught two classes on memoir writing for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (University of Minnesota).
